“If you are good at something, never do it for free!!!”
For whom that have seen the Dark Knight movie, the scene that Joker meets the Mobs for the first time, this quotation from Joker is unforgettable when the Jokers asked the Mob bosses that Batman is your problem so why don’t you deal with it?, and they asked him what is your solution, Joker replied it is easy, just kill him. The Mob bosses laughed and told him if it is that easy as you say, why don`t you do it yourself ? and the Joker replied back :
If you are good at something, never do it for free!!!
So what do you think about above? Is it true ? Do you agree ? Or you think it is not correct!
There were many debates regarding this but I want to share my own opinion and you are more than welcome to share yours if you want.
I read somewhere that some one wrote:
I profoundly disagree with it and he explained because of money comes with all sorts of constraints and anxieties. Before you know it, it’s not a passion! so eventually I’ll only do it for money
Lets assume that you did agree but after reading this guy opinion and rational you will feel small and uncomfortable.
From my side, I am super profoundly agree and I say it is one of the most innovative advice I have ever heard which if you get it correctly it will change your life. and I will tell you why.
First of all when he said free he didn’t say anything about money. and if you have seen the movie when he gets his cut , he just simply burned it!
But lets look at it from different perspective, like more professional perspective. doing something not for free, it does not mean do it only for money. Not free can be translated in different elements of what do you want to define it for yourself, you need to see what is that you want for doing that particular job. It is not always about the money, some times we are doing something for more valuable goal or achievements. It is not about money and if you are smart you get that.
So why do people succeed? Is it because of luck or begin smarter that the others?
I found out what is behind the success when I saw Richard St. John`s 8 secrets of success video in TED. In one of the 8 ways, Richard St. John will say this:
Do it for love the money comes anyway.
We all do have goals in our life so if you care about the value of what you are doing regardless of it is toward you or others, then :
Don’t let others take advantage of your passion for a thing – you’ll sell yourself short.
Dispute of all above, this can have other benefit if you are smart enough to look it in wisely manner:
Understand your value and capabilities, don’t ask for more if you are not there. then you will make a fool of yourself. to ask for gold price, you must be come gold so others would see the value and pay for it.
Plan what you want to achieve and then understand the requirement and built your self and convert yourself from copper to gold then automatically people will see the value.
Again back to question. first you need to become good at something then free will lost its meaning. of course during transformation and at first free is not money, free will be to gain experience and get good at what you do. So if you good at something never do it for free can be translated to this as well:
You, yourself is the the buyer, when you do your thing don’t for it for free, do it to get better and sell it to yourself . never ever do free things, everything must comes with value and that value at the beginning is getting experience and getting better and when cooper converted to gold it will be transformed to money.
